The opening of the Meena Bazaar underpass in Karimabad has been delayed again, more than two years after construction began.
Authorities had most recently said the underpass would open in the first week of February 2026, but that deadline has passed and work remains incomplete. Construction continues on the shuttering of side walls along the stretch from Azizabad toward Musa Colony.
Officials plan to start roofing work once the walls are completed, followed by road construction inside the underpass and painting. Workers have also yet to complete the roundabout above the underpass and adjoining roads.
Site supervisor Arbab said the project will be the deepest underpass in Karachi. He described the structure as narrow and dark, adding that its depth gives it an unusual appearance.
The 1.2-kilometer underpass was inaugurated in 2023 by the caretaker government with an initial completion timeline of 10 months and a target opening of October 2024. Officials later cited the presence of underground water, sewerage, gas, and electricity lines as reasons for the delay.
Authorities have announced five separate opening dates so far, including the most recent February 2026 target. Meanwhile, the project cost has doubled from Rs. 1.35 billion. Residents now expect completion after Eid if work continues at the current pace.

Shame on PPP
As long Lutto and phutto policy is being followed by the local Sindh govt, plz don’t expect completion of work, it will remain pending till their tummies are filled up with haraam, which they consider halal money.
Let me guess …… the money has flown away to Dubai etc…..AND more importantly there is ZERO accountability.
