The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Friday sealed the site office of the illegal housing scheme Anchorage Islamabad Phase-II and stopped its planned inaugural ceremony.
The authority also issued show-cause notices to the scheme’s director and a marketing company for promoting and advertising the unapproved project on social media. The scheme is located in Mouza Thalian, tehsil and district Rawalpindi.
According to an RDA spokesperson, the violations include illegal booking of plots, unauthorized advertising and marketing through private companies, installation of billboards at various locations, and starting development work without obtaining formal approval.
The RDA stated that under Section 34 of the Punjab Development of Cities Act, 1976, such violations are cognizable offences and may lead to imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to Rs. 10,000 per day. Additional fines may be imposed for each day the violation continues after conviction.
The spokesperson added that daily penalties ranging from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 20,000 may also apply depending on the size of the housing scheme.
The Commissioner Rawalpindi, who also holds the additional charge of RDA Director General, warned the public to avoid investing in illegal housing schemes. The RDA advised citizens not to invest in unapproved projects and directed the sponsors to immediately stop marketing activities and obtain the required NOC, failing which strict legal action will follow.
