Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad, has expressed optimism that Pakistan will begin observing Ramadan on the same day nationwide in 2026.
Speaking on reporters, Maulana Azad said that a unified start to fasting has been achieved in recent years and, with Allah’s will, the country is expected to follow the same pattern again this year.
He confirmed that the central moon-sighting meeting to determine the beginning of Ramadan will be held today in Peshawar. At the same time, zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee sessions will also take place in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Islamabad.
Maulana Azad added that technical experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, and the SUPARCO are part of the moon-sighting process. These institutions provide scientific and meteorological input to assist the committee in making an informed decision.
According to a spokesperson for SUPARCO, there is a strong chance that the first fast of Ramadan will be observed tomorrow, Thursday. The official said the new moon was born on Tuesday at 5:01pm PST, and by sunset today, the moon’s age will be around 25 hours and 48 minutes.
However, the spokesperson emphasized that the final and official decision regarding the sighting of the Ramadan moon will be announced by the Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing all testimonies and reports.
