Pakistan Hockey Team Call Out PHF Mismanagement After Australia Tour

The Pakistan hockey team has openly protested against the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) management after returning from Australia, where they participated in the FIH Pro League.

Upon arrival at Lahore Airport, national team captain Imad Butt addressed the media alongside his teammates. He said the team management had lied to them and made it clear that the players cannot continue working under the current management.

“The team management has lied to us. We cannot work with the current management,” he said.

The players cited non-payment of dues as a key issue and said they were forced to take serious action. Captain Imad Butt appealed to the Prime Minister and the Field Marshal to take serious notice of the situation.

Despite the off-field issues, Imad Butt said he was satisfied with his team’s performance. “Given the circumstances in which my team performed, it is a big achievement. I am satisfied with the performance of my team,” he stated.

The captain shared details about the conditions faced during the tour. He revealed that during the tour, players had to prepare their own breakfast and wash their own dishes. “How will a player perform when he does not get proper rest?” he questioned.

He also called for reforms in Pakistan hockey, urging authorities to appoint educated and merit-based individuals to improve the system. He acknowledged that some harsh words were exchanged, but clarified that abusive behavior toward management was not accurate.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the matter and ordered an immediate investigation. According to a spokesperson for the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), an investigation has begun on the Prime Minister’s instructions to determine responsibility.

The Prime Minister reportedly said there would be no compromise on the honor, dignity, and facilities of the national team. He directed authorities to take strict action if negligence or mismanagement is proven.

Earlier, sources had revealed that the team was allegedly provided substandard accommodation during the Australian tour. Players were reportedly placed in small rooms, with living conditions described as below international standards and a matter of serious concern.
