The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is planning a new system to monitor internet and telecom networks across the country, aiming to improve performance, security, and oversight.
The authority will develop a framework for Internet Exchange Points as part of a National Telecom Monitoring Solution to enable better coordination across digital infrastructure. The move is expected to strengthen control over network performance and data flows.
Under the proposed framework, technical and regulatory guidelines will be introduced to set up and connect Internet Exchange Points across Pakistan.
These exchange points will help manage internet traffic more efficiently and reduce dependence on international routing. Officials said the new system will provide real-time visibility into network performance, traffic patterns, and potential security risks.
This is expected to improve service quality and allow quicker response to disruptions or cyber threats. The framework will also define standards for telecom operators, internet service providers, and other stakeholders to ensure consistent implementation.
Authorities believe this will lead to lower latency, improved service delivery, and stronger regulatory compliance. The initiative is part of broader efforts to localize internet traffic and enhance national data governance, reducing reliance on external networks.
PTA is expected to hold consultations with industry stakeholders before finalizing the framework, ensuring it aligns with international best practices and national requirements.
