The Punjab School Education Department has issued a notification introducing a standardized dress code for teachers in all public sector schools across the province.
According to the notification dated February 19, 2026, the department has directed all Chief Executive Officers of District Education Authorities to ensure strict implementation of the new dress code from February 23, 2026.
Under the approved policy, all teachers must wear a black gown during school hours while performing academic duties. The department stated that the gown will serve as a symbol of academic dignity, professionalism and equality. Teachers must wear the gown over modest and decent attire in accordance with cultural, social and ethical norms.
The notification also outlines recommended dress guidelines. Male teachers may wear shalwar kameez in plain and sober colors or a pant shirt, along with closed shoes or strapped sandals. Female teachers are advised to wear suitable attire that reflects dignity, along with closed shoes or modest sandals.
Heads of institutions will ensure day to day compliance, while Chief Executive Officers will monitor implementation at district and school levels. The department has directed authorities to treat the matter as most important and implement the instructions in letter and spirit.
