Sindh Begins Province-Wide Textbook Distribution

The Sindh government will distribute textbooks to 5.2 million students enrolled in 41,158 schools across the province.

Speaking at the ceremony, the education minister said the Constitution guarantees free education and that providing free textbooks is the government’s responsibility. He said authorities will complete formal distribution by April 1 and have directed District Education Officers to ensure timely delivery to all schools.

He said the government will further improve textbooks in consultation with teachers and education experts to reduce academic burden and enhance quality. He praised the Sindh Textbook Board (STBB) for completing publication despite increased paper taxes and other challenges, stating that effective planning ensured timely availability.

The minister said the department will introduce curriculum changes in the next academic year to align education with modern requirements. He said the revised curriculum will focus on research, scientific thinking, creativity, and modern trends in science, technology, mathematics, languages, and social sciences. It will also emphasize religious tolerance, mutual respect, gender studies, and environmental protection.

He reiterated Sindh’s opposition to the Single National Curriculum and said other provinces are now discussing the inclusion of mother tongues as subjects. Officials added that UNESCO has termed Sindh’s curriculum “most inclusive.” The STBB chairman said textbooks will also be available online.
