Apple is expected to launch several new devices in early March, with the official event confirmed for March 4. Among the expected announcements, the iPhone 17e has attracted the most attention as the successor to the iPhone 16e.
Leaks indicate Apple is focusing on refinements rather than a full redesign, continuing the same overall approach used in the previous model.
Display and Design Changes
One of the most notable expected updates is the introduction of Dynamic Island. Apple is reportedly planning to replace the traditional notch with a Dynamic Island cutout, extending its software-driven interface to a lower-priced iPhone model.
The display itself is expected to remain unchanged. The iPhone 17e is rumored to feature a 6.1-inch OLED panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. ProMotion is still expected to remain limited to higher-end models. However, slimmer bezels are reportedly being used, which could give the phone a slightly updated appearance.
Apple is not expected to make major changes to the device’s construction. The phone is likely to retain an aluminum frame, glass front and back panels, and IP68 water and dust resistance. Rumor has it that the phone will use the same chassis as the iPhone 16e.
Performance and Cameras
The iPhone 17e is expected to run on a non-Pro version of the A19 chip. While the chip may be downclocked, performance is expected to remain comparable to the A17 Pro, which was found in the iPhone 15 Pro phones.
Reports also point to the inclusion of Apple’s newer C1X modem, which is expected to offer better efficiency and lower power consumption compared with the previous generation.
Camera hardware is not expected to change significantly. The device will likely continue to use a single 48MP rear camera. However, improvements in image processing from the A19 chip could result in modest gains in photo quality. Some reports also suggest Apple may introduce Fusion computational photography to the iPhone 17e.
Details around the front camera remain unclear. Some leaks suggest no changes, while others indicate a possible upgrade to an 18MP sensor with Center Stage support.
Battery and Price
Battery capacity has not been confirmed. Estimates place it between 4,000 mAh and 4,500 mAh, which would be in line with the previous model. Charging speeds are expected to remain unchanged, likely capped at around 24W through USB Power Delivery.
A notable addition could be MagSafe wireless charging, which reports suggest may be introduced to the iPhone 17e for the first time.
Pricing is expected to remain unchanged from last year. Reports indicate a starting price of $599 for the base configuration with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
