Provincial Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani briefed the chief minister that 427,000 farmers owning up to five acres of land applied for Phase III. He said the government distributed 21,000 tractors in the past two years, compared to 20,000 tractors distributed over the previous 25 years.

Under the program, authorities have completed two phases and distributed 21,000 tractors so far. In Phase III, the government will provide 10,000 tractors with 50 to 65 horsepower.

Officials informed the chief minister that Punjab has about 140 tractors per 10,000 acres, a ratio lower than many other countries. Rising tractor prices over the past five years have made it difficult for small and medium farmers to purchase machinery at full cost.
