SECP Clarifies Reports of Foreign Companies Exiting Pakistan

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) on Monday denied recent reports suggesting a mass exit of foreign companies from Pakistan, calling the claims “maliciously misrepresented.”

Officials explained that between 2022 and 2025, only 19 foreign companies wound up operations in Pakistan while 79 new foreign companies were registered during the same period.

They said the figure of 125 companies circulating in some reports represents the total number of foreign company closures since 1977, not recent years, and this information is clearly reflected on the SECP’s official website, along with the year of closure for each company.

SECP officials said the website clearly indicates the year of closure for each company.

At present, 1,157 foreign companies are registered in Pakistan.

Officials said the data further shows continued investor interest, with foreign investment made in 82 Pakistani companies in January 2026 alone, originating from countries including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Australia, and Germany.
