The Capital Development Authority has extended the deadline for bids for the proposed D-12 cricket stadium after receiving a low response from construction firms.
The new deadline for submission and opening of bids has been moved from February 23 to March 9, giving companies additional time to participate in the tender process.
The move signals lukewarm interest in one of Islamabad’s major upcoming infrastructure projects.
The bidding process was initially launched in early January, inviting proposals from firms registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council under the EPC model.
The project is being tendered under a two-stage, two-envelope procedure in line with public procurement rules. The proposed stadium will be located near Sector D-12 with a scenic view of the Margalla Hills.
It is planned to have a seating capacity of around 32,000 spectators. The design also includes a large parking facility for approximately 10,000 vehicles, to be developed about one kilometre away from the main stadium to manage traffic during events.
Officials said the project is being developed in coordination with the Pakistan Cricket Board and is inspired by international venues such as the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The project was initially approved at a cost of Rs. 12 billion, but after design revisions, the estimated cost has been reduced to around Rs. 8 billion.
Authorities expect that the extended deadline will attract more bidders and improve competition for the project.
