Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday directed the mayor of Karachi to complete the Karimabad and Munawar Chowrangi underpasses within one month and make them operational for the public.
He issued the directive while chairing a high level meeting to review Karachi’s development projects for the financial year 2025 to 26. Officials informed him that the Karimabad Underpass has achieved 85 percent physical progress.
Authorities launched the project in May 2023 with a planned completion period of 10 months and an expected opening in October 2024, but technical issues delayed the timeline.
Officials also reported that work on the Munawar Chowrangi underpass, a Rs. 2.02 billion project launched in 2023, has reached 75 percent completion. The government has so far released Rs. 300 million for the scheme.
The chief minister reviewed projects being executed by the Karachi Development Authority and instructed authorities to maintain construction quality and reduce traffic disruption.
He also expressed concern over slow progress in some newly approved projects and ordered departments to improve coordination with provincial agencies, district administrations, and utility providers.
He directed officials to complete procedural requirements immediately so that work on approved projects can proceed without further delay.
