The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday handed a six-month prison sentence to a lawyer after finding him guilty of contempt of court for alleged threats and improper conduct toward a female civil judge.
Along with the jail term, the court ordered the lawyer to pay a fine of Rs100,000.
According to the ruling authored by Justice Ijaz Anwar, the accused, Asadullah, an advocate and member of the District Bar Association Swat, was found to have threatened Civil Judge Fauzia Naseem and used inappropriate language in court.
The judgment added that he allegedly attempted to pressure the judge into issuing a decision in his favor.
The court observed that Asadullah did not comply with judicial directions despite repeated orders to appear and submit a response.
It said his explanation was unsatisfactory, which ultimately led to the sentencing and the financial penalty.
