Punjab Changes Pension Rules for Government Employees

The Finance Department of Punjab has issued an official notification introducing key amendments to pension rules for government employees across Punjab.

New Conditions for Voluntary Retirement

Under the revised rules, a new condition has been imposed for voluntary retirement:

  • Employees must complete 25 years of qualifying service
  • They must also be at least 55 years of age

Voluntary retirement will now be granted on the principle of “25 years of service or 55 years of age, whichever is later.”

Forced Retirement and Pension Rules

In cases of compulsory (forced) retirement, pension matters for employees with 20 years of qualifying service will be dealt with under the new regulations.

The notification also includes amendments to pension clauses in cases involving corruption or misconduct. Completion of qualifying service has been made a mandatory requirement under the updated pension rules.

Objective of the Amendments

According to the Finance Department, the purpose of these changes is to bring greater transparency and discipline to the pension system.

The revised rules have come into effect immediately, and all pension cases will now be processed under the updated framework.
