Traffic police in Karachi have finalized a special traffic management plan for Ramadan to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles and facilitate commuters during peak hours before iftar, ARY News reported.
According to the DIG Traffic, water tankers will be banned from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm ahead of iftar to reduce congestion on major roads.
Key Measures Announced
- Strict action against footpath encroachments, illegal parking, pushcarts, and rickshaws disrupting traffic
- Deployment of additional traffic personnel at major roads, intersections, and key junctions
- SSPs to remain present in the field, while DSPs monitor operations from the control room
- Zero-tolerance policy against vehicles and motorcycles without number plates
- Rickshaws banned from entering the markets during Ramadan
- 26 Qingqi rickshaw routes to remain restricted
Authorities emphasized that ensuring smooth traffic movement and helping citizens reach home on time for iftar are top priorities.
Strict Enforcement & Digital Monitoring
Motorcycles involved in double or triple parking will have their wheels chained, to be released only after issuance of an e-challan.
To enhance transparency and enforcement, traffic police officers will be equipped with modern tablets to issue digital e-challans on the spot.
Officials said the comprehensive plan aims to maintain discipline and prevent gridlock across the city during the holy month.
