Punjab Food Authority sealed a milk shop, arrested its owner, and imposed fines exceeding Rs. 500,000 during a crackdown on Sehri points across Lahore.
Food safety teams inspected 40 outlets in Ravi Town, Ali Town, Lahori Gate, Darbar, Lake City, and Nishtar Town. Enforcement teams, supported by the PFA bike squad, carried out inspections during Sehri hours to monitor food quality and hygiene standards.
Authorities sealed a well known lassi shop after laboratory tests confirmed milk adulteration. Officials registered an FIR and took the owner into custody. The PFA fined 15 food outlets more than Rs. 500,000 in total and issued improvement notices to 10 others for various violations.
Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid said officials acted after repeated non-compliance despite prior warnings. Inspectors found poor storage conditions, dirty freezers, rusty utensils, insect infestation, open drains, unhygienic washing areas, and foul odors.
Several outlets also failed to maintain mandatory records and medical certificates for staff. The PFA continued inspections of vendors selling Nihari, Paya, Hareesa, and Murgh Channay during Sehri.
Officials said teams will monitor food outlets throughout Ramadan to prevent health risks and enforce food safety regulations.
