Lahore to Get Punjab’s First Medical District

The Punjab government has prepared a plan to establish the Nawaz Sharif Medical District in Lahore following the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Care Hospital project.

According to sources, the provincial government has completed the initial PC-I documentation and 3D designs for Punjab’s first medical district, which will be developed on more than 1,500 kanals of land. The project also includes the construction of a 22.87 kanal helipad and a 32.38 kanal gas station.

Officials said the medical district will include a biodiversity park for the first time, introducing modern green spaces for the public.

Land has also been allocated for commercial development, with 28.89 kanals designated for Mixed-Use Commercial Zone One and 28.69 kanals for Mixed-Use Commercial Zone Two.

Under the plan, a Civic Avenue will connect multiple hospitals within the district, while a 250-foot-wide Sunset Avenue will form part of the road network. To improve pedestrian access, 53.99 kanals have been reserved for crosswalks, including pedestrian bridges and canal-side walkways.

The medical district will be linked directly to the Lahore Ring Road, providing direct access for patients, visitors, and emergency services.

The Institute of Ophthalmology will be the first facility constructed within the district, with an estimated cost of PKR 17.8 billion. The project is expected to begin in the current financial year.
