Punjab Announces 3-Year Jail and Rs. 50,000 Fine for Sharing Question Papers on Social Media

Punjab education boards have issued a strict warning ahead of the upcoming annual examinations, making it clear that sharing question papers on social media will lead to serious legal consequences, including jail time and heavy fines.

According to official notifications circulated across the province, posting or forwarding objective or subjective exam papers on platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, or X (formerly Twitter), whether during or after exam hours, will be treated as a criminal offense, not a minor violation.

Authorities have reminded students and the public that the act falls under the Punjab University and Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education Malpractices Act, 1950.

Under the law, anyone found leaking or spreading examination material meant for an upcoming or ongoing paper can face up to three years of imprisonment along with a fine reaching Rs. 50,000.

The boards have also imposed a zero-tolerance policy on mobile phone use inside examination centers. Taking photos, recording videos, or digitally transmitting question papers is strictly prohibited.

Officials warned that even attempting to capture exam content using electronic devices will be considered deliberate interference in the examination process.

Punjab boards have directed examination staff to remain vigilant, while district administrations and law enforcement agencies have been asked to assist in monitoring and compliance during exam days.

Students, parents, and invigilators have been advised to avoid engaging in or encouraging any unlawful activity, as violations will result in immediate legal action without exceptions.
