Pakistan’s airspace remains fully operational and safe for all flight operations, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) said on Saturday, despite a temporary closure of Tehran’s airspace by Iranian authorities.
In a statement, PAA said Iran issued NOTAM A0715/26 closing Tehran airspace to civil aircraft from 1130 to 1700 Pakistan Standard Time. The authority noted that this daytime period typically sees limited east-west transit traffic.
PAA said that if Iranian authorities extend the NOTAM beyond 1700 PKT, overflight traffic may increase through Pakistani airspace, particularly during nighttime hours as airlines reroute long-haul international flights to avoid Iranian airspace.
Air traffic control units in Pakistan are fully prepared to handle additional traffic, the statement said. PAA added that flight operations across the country are continuing normally, with no delays, restrictions or safety concerns reported.
The clarification comes after the United States and Israel carried out attacks against Iran, escalating tensions in the region following a 12-day air conflict between Israel and Iran in June. Washington and Tel Aviv had previously warned of further action if Iran continued its nuclear and ballistic missile programs..
