Xiaomi Becomes Biggest Wearable Maker Globally After 5 Years

Xiaomi has returned to the top position in the global wearables market after five years, according to new data from Omdia. Worldwide wearable shipments surpassed 200 million units in 2025, up 6% from the previous year.

Xiaomi accounted for 18% of total shipments, narrowly ahead of Apple at 17% and Huawei at 16%. The difference between the top three brands was less than one percentage point. Samsung followed with a 9% share, while Garmin secured 5%.

Tighter Competitive Landscape

The data highlights how close the competition has become. Omdia research manager Cynthia Chen said the focus in wearables has shifted from hardware specifications such as display quality, sensor count, and battery life to ecosystem integration.

Companies are now emphasizing how well wearables connect with smartphones, tablets, vehicles, and smart home products. Stronger ecosystem ties can increase customer retention.

Xiaomi’s Strategy

Xiaomi’s return to the top appears to be driven by its broad product lineup. The Mi Band series continues to generate high shipment volumes in the affordable segment. At the same time, its entry-level smartwatches help increase average selling prices without entering the premium tier.

The company’s “Human × Car × Home” strategy also contributes by linking wearables more closely to its expanding ecosystem of connected devices.

Apple and Huawei’s Position

Apple maintains strength in the high-end segment. Its wearables benefit from integration with the iPhone, premium hardware design, and expanding health features.

Huawei has established a strong presence, particularly in China, supported by a wide range of devices and an increased emphasis on professional sports tracking and advanced health-monitoring tools.

Health tracking continues to move beyond basic step counts and heart rate measurements toward continuous and more advanced metrics. Some brands are also experimenting with lighter and more minimalist designs to improve comfort for all-day tracking.
