Pakistan has shifted its ongoing negotiations with the International Monetary Fund to a virtual format due to the prevailing security situation, while keeping the review process on track.
Officials from the Ministry of Finance confirmed that discussions will continue as per the original schedule, even though the format has changed from in-person meetings to online engagement.
“An IMF mission led by Ms. Iva Petrova has started discussions with the authorities in Karachi and Islamabad on the third review of Pakistan’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) arrangement and the second review of the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). Discussions will continue to be held virtually,” IMF Resident Representative Mahir Binici told ProPakistani.
The decision comes after the IMF delegation departed the country following the completion of its initial round of meetings. Remaining negotiations, which were earlier planned to continue physically, will now take place through virtual platforms.
Key economic review discussions involving the Ministry of Finance, the Federal Board of Revenue, and the energy sector are expected to proceed online. These engagements remain central to Pakistan’s ongoing review process with the IMF.
Sources told ProPakistani that the move was made in response to the current security environment, with authorities opting for continuity in dialogue while ensuring safety.
