Punjab Makes E-Tag Installation Mandatory for All Vehicles

The Punjab government has approved the mandatory installation of electronic tags on all vehicles, including motorcycles, across the province and has directed officials to submit a comprehensive micro security plan within seven days.

The decision was finalized at a high-level law and order meeting led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who approved multiple measures to enhance surveillance, border security, and counterterrorism initiatives.

The meeting approved the establishment of a Punjab Cyber Crime Investigation Unit and the appointment of its head. A dedicated cell will be created to handle cases involving women and girls affected by cybercrime. District-level online crime centers will also be set up to improve response and coordination.

CM Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to strictly enforce a ban on movement through non-traditional provincial entry points. She also ordered tighter enforcement of drone restrictions across the province.

The installation of searchlights at provincial entry routes was approved, along with expanded drone surveillance. Rooftop security monitoring at checkpoints will be implemented, and immediate steps will be taken to procure advanced drone defense systems.

Emphasizing proactive policing, the chief minister ordered that combing operations against criminals and terrorists continue without interruption. She also instructed that the RMP Anti-Riots Force, established for crowd management, receive advanced training and modern security equipment.

During the meeting, CM Maryam Nawaz praised religious scholars for their role in maintaining peace and urged continued cooperation to preserve law and order. She also commended Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and the Lahore Police for handling recent situations in Lahore and other parts of Punjab in a timely manner.
