The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Monday finalized a plan to rehabilitate 183 important roads across different Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs) in Karachi to improve traffic flow and road conditions in the city.
The plan was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah to review the Karachi Special Road Rehabilitation Program under the Minister for Local Government’s initiative.
During the meeting, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab briefed participants on the completion of plans for the 183 key roads across various TMCs. He said these roads play a vital role in managing the city’s traffic flow, serving as major arteries and alternative routes used by thousands of commuters every day.
Minister Nasir Hussain Shah directed the Municipal Commissioner to expedite all necessary procedures and immediately begin the tendering process to ensure the project moves forward quickly.
He further emphasized that the initiative will significantly contribute to the rehabilitation of Karachi’s infrastructure and improve civic facilities for residents across the city.
Mayor Wahab also informed the meeting that solarization of streetlights will be carried out after the successful rehabilitation of the roads.
He noted that the step will follow the successful Sharae Faisal model, where solar streetlights have produced encouraging results in terms of energy efficiency, cost reduction, and improved illumination.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Special Secretary Local Government Syed Azhar Shah, Municipal Commissioner Karachi Ibrar Jaffar, Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, along with other senior officials.
