Punjab CM Orders Anti-Drone Units Across Province

Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Minister of Punjab, has directed authorities to make an anti-drone unit fully operational across the province to strengthen security measures.

Chairing a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee, she also ordered the establishment of anti-drone cells at the district level. The committee reviewed the overall security situation and discussed measures to ensure public safety.

Participants paid tribute to the Pakistan Army for the success of Operation Zarb‑ul‑Haq and offered prayers for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Officials briefed the meeting on preventive security steps taken by the provincial government. The committee also reviewed the repatriation of illegally residing Afghan nationals, noting that more than 10,500 individuals had been sent back while daily combing operations continued.

Maryam Nawaz praised law enforcement agencies for maintaining order during recent protests in Lahore and commended authorities for facilitating peaceful demonstrators during Ramadan.

She also highlighted the success of security operations in the Katcha region, stating that no kidnapping-for-ransom cases had been reported there for the past three and a half months.

The chief minister announced a Rs10 billion development package for the region, including Safe City infrastructure, education, and health reforms.

Around 1,500 personnel and bulletproof vehicles will be deployed to enhance security, while digital monitoring of criminal elements will be expanded.

Maryam Nawaz also ordered the strict implementation of security protocols for Chinese nationals, stating they would travel only under police escort.

She further revealed that artificial intelligence-based technology, inspired by the Chinese model, would soon be introduced to improve traffic management in Lahore.

In a separate meeting chaired by Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, authorities also agreed in principle to ban protest gatherings and rallies on Lahore’s historic Mall Road to preserve its heritage.

Plans were also approved to construct a bridge linking the Tomb of Jahangir with a main road under the Lahore Heritage Areas Revival (LAHAR) project.
