KP Govt to Distribute Solar Systems to 130,000 Households

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to begin the distribution of solar systems under its household solarization scheme.

Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi directed officials to complete all procedural requirements and start the distribution process without delay while chairing a meeting in Peshawar.

Officials briefed the meeting that the project will cover 130,000 households across the province, including the merged districts. Under the plan, 65,000 households will receive solar units free of cost, while another 65,000 households will receive systems at a 50 percent subsidized price, payable in installments.

The meeting was informed that the PC-1 of the project has been finalized and will be presented in the upcoming meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party for approval.

A separate solarization project is also being prepared under the Accelerated Implementation Program (AIP) for the merged districts. Under this component, 120,000 households in the merged districts will be provided solar systems.

Officials said the project will allocate solar units to districts according to population. Priority will be given to widows, persons with disabilities, temporarily displaced persons, families affected by natural disasters, and communities without access to electricity.
