The Chief Executive of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), Hammad Mansoor, has said that a locally manufactured electric car priced at around Rs. 1 million could enter Pakistan’s market by June.
Speaking to journalists during an Iftar dinner, Mansoor said the vehicle would be a fully electric “Made-in-Pakistan” car. He also indicated that vehicle taxes may be reduced in the upcoming federal budget, which could make hybrid, electric, and conventional vehicles more affordable.
Mansoor said the long-standing dominance of a few large automobile manufacturers in Pakistan was beginning to change as new companies enter the market and localisation increases. According to him, increased competition and local manufacturing could reduce car prices by up to Rs. 2.5 million.
The EDB chief executive also said that Pakistan’s first lithium battery manufacturing plant is expected to begin production by May, while another battery plant is likely to start operations in September.
He added that about 74 percent of battery components will be produced locally, which could reduce electric vehicle costs due to locally manufactured parts.
Mansoor further said that locally developed electric vehicles are expected to offer a range of around 180 kilometers on a single charge, while some advanced models may reach up to 1,200 kilometers.

Battery makers are chinese since we don’t have any tech
Motors and inverters engineering and tech is also imported
Lastly we don’t have the tech to extract Battery rare earth , even usa doesn’t. Only china does.
We don’t even have plants to create individual parts for a car … any car at all .
So this is just claims.
