Sindh Distributes 300 Pink Electric Scooters to Women

The Sindh Transport Department and the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) distributed 300 pink electric scooters to women in Karachi on Sunday to mark International Women’s Day.

The distribution ceremony was held at a local hotel, where Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon addressed the event and congratulated women on the occasion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Memon said International Women’s Day was a day to recognize the role and contributions of women in society. He added that women had remained neglected in the past but had demonstrated their ability to lead and contribute in every field.

He said former prime minister Benazir Bhutto had played a key role in empowering women and proved that women were capable of leading the country.

He added that the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) was the largest social welfare initiative in Pakistan and gained international recognition after being launched during the tenure of former president Asif Ali Zardari.

The minister said the Sindh government had introduced several initiatives to support women, including the Pink Bus Service, which also employs women drivers.

He said the government planned to launch a program to provide five million electric scooters to women, adding that applicants would require a permanent driving licence and proof of education or employment, while women would also be offered free driving training.
