The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has intensified its efforts to make Karachi cleaner and greener by transforming garbage dumping sites into public green spaces across the city.
As part of this initiative, SSWMB recently removed a garbage dumping point on Textile Avenue Road near Jamia Binoria in the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE), District Keamari.
The team cleared accumulated debris from the site and converted the area into a green belt. Workers planted plants and flowers at the location to improve the surroundings and prevent the return of illegal dumping.
Members of the local industrial community supported the plantation drive. Saleem Nagaria, owner of FABKNIT Company and executive member of the SITE Association of Industry, led the initiative by planting trees at the site to help make the area greener and cleaner.
SSWMB Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani said the board remains committed to converting garbage heaps into green spaces throughout Karachi.
“We have resolved to turn garbage dumps into gardens. Illegal dumping points are being gradually eliminated and replaced with green belts and plantations to promote a clean, green, and environmentally friendly Karachi. Cooperation from citizens and the industrial community is essential to sustain these efforts,” he said in a message issued from his office.
Assistant Director SITE Zone Ghulam Nabi said the operation to eliminate garbage dumping points in the area is continuing. He added that SSWMB recently removed another dumping point near Naurus Chowrangi and converted it into a plantation site.
He also said teams are removing large quantities of construction debris from different parts of SITE to improve cleanliness and restore the environment of the industrial area.
SSWMB officials said the board will continue strengthening the city’s waste management system and maintaining cleanliness across Karachi.
