Pakistan Conducts Emergency Review of Food, Fertilizer Reserves to Avert Crisis

Pakistan on Monday reviewed the supply of perishable food items and fertilizers as the escalating Middle East war threatens key shipping routes and energy supplies.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting to assess domestic availability and export pathways for perishable foods, exploring alternative sea routes and new markets to ensure timely trade.

Officials emphasized improving storage, logistics, and market access to maintain export competitiveness.

Separately, Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain led the Fertilizer Review Committee, assuring an uninterrupted supply for farmers.

The committee discussed pricing, distribution, and coordination among manufacturers and provinces to prevent hoarding and protect agricultural productivity.

Authorities confirmed close monitoring of global and local markets to safeguard Pakistan’s food security amid regional uncertainties.
