Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon has said that the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) is working on a new chip for the motorcycle M-Tag system, which will be provided free of cost to citizens once it is developed.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament House, the deputy commissioner said the current M-Tag installed on motorcycles becomes unusable once removed. He said this ensures that a tag issued for one motorcycle cannot be used on another vehicle.
He added that if an M-Tag is stolen, citizens can report the incident through the helpline number, after which the tag will be blocked immediately and a new one will be issued free of charge. The deputy commissioner said the M-Tag system includes several security and safety features aimed at strengthening monitoring and regulation.
He also said security arrangements have been tightened at all mosques and imambargahs in Islamabad, adding that administrative officers remain present in the field to oversee the situation.
Regarding ride-hailing services, Memon said the registration process for online taxis is also underway in the federal capital. According to him, more than 19,000 taxis and motorcycles have so far been registered under the system.
He said drivers have been instructed to upload details of their trips, including information about where passengers are picked up and dropped off, along with their identification data.
