Punjab Police have equipped vehicles at 747 police stations across the province with crime scene protection kits to ensure timely preservation of evidence and improve investigation standards.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the initiative has been launched under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz titled “Justice at Your Doorstep.”
The spokesperson said the special kits contain crime scene cones, cordon tape, and evidence markers, and have been placed in the vehicles of police stations so that officers can secure the scene of a crime immediately after an incident.
The measure is intended to prevent evidence from being lost or disturbed.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem said crime scene protection is a fundamental component of any investigation, adding that timely preservation of a scene helps ensure evidence remains intact and improves the overall quality of investigations.
Meanwhile, Additional Inspector General Investigation Punjab Shahzada Sultan said police officers are also being trained as first responders to strengthen crime scene management.
He said 500 master trainers have already been prepared to train police personnel across the province.
Sultan added that with the cooperation of coordinators from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), professional training of police officers is ongoing. Officers from the rank of constable to inspector will receive training in modern crime scene management techniques.
He said the training program is designed to align police investigations with modern forensic science requirements, making the investigation process more effective, transparent, and consistent with modern standards.
