The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted that Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to fall on March 21, 2026, based on astronomical calculations.
According to a spokesperson for SUPARCO, the new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH will be born on March 19, 2026, at 6:23am. The spokesperson said that at the time of sunset on March 19, the age of the moon is expected to be 12 hours and 41 minutes.
SUPARCO stated that in coastal areas the time difference between sunset and moonset on March 19 is expected to be about 28 minutes. However, the spokesperson said that the chances of sighting the Shawwal moon on the evening of March 19 are low.
Based on astronomical estimates, the spokesperson added that the first day of Shawwal 1447 AH is expected to fall on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
SUPARCO also clarified that the final announcement regarding the sighting of the Shawwal moon will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
