Latest 5G Launch A ‘Game Changer’ for Pakistan’s IT Exports: P@SHA

The Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) has said the transition to 5G technology could become a major catalyst for accelerating Pakistan’s IT exports and strengthening the country’s digital economy.

The association noted that the recent 5G spectrum auction conducted by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority generated about $507 million and marked a key milestone toward upgrading the country’s digital infrastructure.

P@SHA also acknowledged the role of the government, including the Special Investment Facilitation Council and the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, in facilitating the transparent and successful auction process.

According to the association, the shift to high capacity 5G networks will provide ultra low latency and massive bandwidth, enabling Pakistani technology firms to deliver complex and data intensive services to global clients more efficiently.

P@SHA Chairman Sajjad Mustafa Syed said 5G would act as the backbone for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things and augmented reality, helping accelerate digital innovation across sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture and smart city infrastructure.

The association added that improved connectivity will also support the expansion of cloud computing and edge computing ecosystems, allowing startups and technology companies to scale faster while reducing operational costs and improving cybersecurity.

P@SHA said stronger digital infrastructure could help Pakistan maintain double digit growth in IT exports and position the technology sector as one of the country’s leading export industries in the coming years.

The body urged the government, regulators and telecom operators to ensure a rapid and industry friendly rollout of 5G services so that the IT sector can fully benefit from next generation connectivity.
