Islamabad to Get New National Bus Terminal

Authorities in Islamabad are planning to establish a National Bus Terminal on approximately 31 acres of land in Sector I-11/4. The proposal was reviewed during a meeting held at the headquarters of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Monday.

The meeting was chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Senior officials including Member Administration and Estate Talat Mehmood, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Planning and Design Dr Khalid Hafiz, and Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch attended the meeting.

Officials briefed participants on the proposed site plan and traffic management arrangements for the terminal planned in Sector I-11/4. According to the briefing, the facility will have the capacity to accommodate more than 100 buses.

The terminal is expected to include bus bays, designated parking spaces for buses, commercial areas and petrol pumps. Plans also include service stations, a taxi stand and a maintenance workshop to support transport operations and facilitate passengers.

Officials further informed the meeting that the terminal is expected to be connected with the planned 11th Avenue, which would improve traffic flow and accessibility in the surrounding areas.

During the meeting, Randhawa directed authorities to prepare a high-quality design for the project and said an open architectural competition should be organised to refine the proposed design.

He also instructed relevant departments to expedite the hiring of consultants and to develop a financial and operational model for the construction and future management of the terminal.

  • Good initiative but it should be away from the city. The point selected for it is going to become a pain in the neck in near future due to congestion.

  • Already there is a terminal in 26 number chungi.
    Why another terminal near it.
A good location would be near to rawat, so that two terminals can be accessible from north west and south of Islamabad

  • Unable to understand the selection of this location i-11/4 which is central part of twin cities, for such a big bus terminal.

  • This site place is a totally not fit for Bus Terminal in I-11 which is the central place in Islamabad. Being an international Bus Terminal, this should be near Airport just like on M2 any where far from Central City. For establishing the Bus Terminal, Kualalampur Bus terminal Model can be studied which is situated outside of the City and has been established just like an Kualalmpur Airport Terminal which can accomodate 100s of buses playing on the different routes of the country and is fully automated and well managed.similarly Islamabad Bus Terminal MUST cateratleast the next 50 years for the commuters.

  • NESPAK on its own lacks capacity to design such mega public projects complete with allied facilities and amenities. It will be advisable to seek Chinese designers/engineers inputs before spending billions of borrowed/begged money.
