The federal government has decided not to hold the Pakistan Day parade scheduled for March 23, citing ongoing oil supply pressures and austerity measures announced in response to the regional situation.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said the decision covers both the parade and related ceremonies, which will not take place this year. The move follows disruptions in global oil supply linked to tensions in the Middle East, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has impacted energy markets.
The government recently introduced austerity steps to manage the situation, including a four-day work week and work-from-home arrangements. The Prime Minister’s Office said Pakistan Day will instead be observed through simple and dignified ceremonies, including flag-hoisting events.
All ministries, divisions and departments have been directed to mark the day with simplicity while maintaining the significance of the occasion.
Pakistan Day, observed on March 23 each year, commemorates the adoption of the Lahore Resolution in 1940 and is traditionally marked by a military parade in Islamabad attended by senior civil and military leadership.
