Zong Tests 5G in Islamabad With Speeds of More Than 1,400 Mbps

Zong has announced the results of its latest 5G speed tests in Islamabad, with peak download speeds exceeding 1.4 Gbps. The pre-launch trials were conducted across multiple urban topologies, showcasing the network’s technical readiness for a nationwide rollout.

According to the telecom operator, these high speeds reflect the company’s optimized infrastructure and spectrum utilization, with Zong’s “output-to-spectrum” efficiency as a key factor in achieving such performance benchmarks.

Zong’s 5G Firsts in Pakistan

Zong has led several milestones in Pakistan’s 5G landscape:

  • 2019: Conducted the country’s first 5G trial, establishing Pakistan’s first functional 5G node.

  • 2020: Completed South Asia’s first 5G international video call, demonstrating low-latency capabilities.

  • 2021–2025: Continued investment in infrastructure, AI-integrated traffic management, and network upgrades.

5G Commercial Rollout Plans

The company outlined its “three-pillar” approach for the upcoming 5G launch:

  1. Customer Experience: Ensuring a smooth transition for existing 4G users to the new high-capacity 5G network.

  2. Diversified Services: Expanding offerings and capabilities enabled by 5G.

  3. AI-Driven Optimization: Intelligent network self-management to maintain peak speeds during periods of high traffic.

Zong’s recent trials mark another step in the operator’s long-term 5G roadmap. This is the second such reveal by a local telecom operator. Last week, Jazz posted this year’s first early testing results of the country, showing a handset connected to a 5G signal with download speeds of 1,400 Mbps.

  • Ok I also have their (Zong’s) 2019 5g test video where they scored closer to 1.6Gbps on download and 70 on upload… after all these years they still couldn’t beat their own 5 year old result.

    • But this test is not in controlled environment this test on servell ground testing on different places read full story

      • it was similar-ish testing enviornment where it was available publicly same like this one. the only difference this time around to me seems like it’s being tested on more than one cell site but its still closed testing with only a handful of people. After 5-6 years I believe there should be some advancements in the tech that could made tests in 2026 a bit more speedy. anyways that’s just my opinion as a layperson

  • Ufone’s 4G speed has increased significantly. I think they have started using the newly acquired spectrum.

    • have you tested it using netmonster app? I have seen a few people saying this about Ufone speed. I need to test it. im enticed

        • No, I was talking about the new bands. have you seen new bands being used by ufone on Net monster app? OR
have they finally started carrier Aggregation? these 2 things could all be difference and both can be checked via net monster app

          • ok, not sure about this app, I have never used it. May be if you can check and share the findings, that would be great.

  • Yeah that’s bcz no one used it. Once deployed the speed will go down drastically
