Fact Check: Did Maryam Nawaz Launch a Rs. 5,000 Eidi Scheme?

A fraudulent online Eid scheme falsely linked to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has been exposed, targeting citizens ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

The scam, widely circulating on social media and WhatsApp, claims that residents aged 12 and above can receive Rs5,000 via mobile wallets such as Easypaisa and JazzCash.

Cybersecurity experts have confirmed that the so-called “Maryam Nawaz Eidi Scheme” is completely fake. Fraudsters are using a deceptive website, govtpunjab.com.pk, that resembles an official government portal, even though it has no official connection to the Government of Punjab.

Personal Data at Risk

The fake website asks users to register by providing sensitive information such as CNIC numbers, mobile phone numbers, and digital wallet details. Experts warn that sharing such information could lead to identity theft, SIM-swap fraud, or financial losses from mobile wallets.

Officials stressed that all legitimate government initiatives are hosted only on verified domains such as punjab.gov.pk, and authorities never collect personal information through private websites.

Public Advisory

Security analysts have urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid clicking on suspicious links shared on WhatsApp, Facebook, or other social media platforms. People are also advised not to share CNIC details, banking PINs, or wallet credentials with unknown sources.

With Eid approaching, authorities warn that scammers often exploit the names of public officials and government programs to deceive the public.
