Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti announced that security forces had arrested a female suicide bomber in Khuzdar, foiling a potential attack and saving human lives.
Addressing a press conference in Quetta, Bugti described the operation as a major success and said it had prevented a “dangerous terrorist plot.” He praised the timely action of security agencies and called it a significant step in the fight against terrorism.
He said the suspect confessed during interrogation that she had been recruited by a terrorist commander, Qazi Ibrahim, and trained for a suicide mission. She was later linked to a network through an individual identified as Diljan.
Bugti warned of what he called an “alarming trend” of Baloch youth, particularly women, being misled into extremist activities. He said the Baloch people are peaceful, but some groups are pushing them toward violence.
He also alleged that certain elements are working for foreign powers, particularly India, while some activities are linked to Afghanistan, where training camps are believed to exist.
The suspect said she had been radicalized over the past three months and was assigned both to carry out an attack and recruit other young women. She urged women to avoid becoming involved in such activities.
Officials said initial investigations indicate the suspect had links to banned militant groups and extremist networks. Authorities are working to identify facilitators involved in her training and planning.
Bugti said the suspect will be placed in a special facility for further investigation, along with efforts for rehabilitation and de-radicalization.
Authorities believe the case has exposed a wider network involved in recruitment, indoctrination, and propaganda.
The chief minister said improved intelligence-sharing has led to multiple successful operations across the province and reaffirmed that protecting lives and property remains a priority.
The provincial government also announced that cases involving women will be handled by female police officers. Plans are in place to expand education, employment opportunities, and community programs to prevent radicalization.
Bugti stressed the need to counter online propaganda and said awareness campaigns will be launched to curb extremist narratives.
He added that security forces remain fully active and committed to maintaining peace in Balochistan.
