The Government of Sindh has decided to revive the drive-in cinema experience in Karachi. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting of the Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities Department, chaired by Provincial Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah.
The session was attended by senior officials, including the Secretary of Culture and Tourism and heads of various departments.
During the meeting, officials reviewed departmental performance and were directed to strictly follow austerity measures issued by the Sindh Chief Minister. Despite budget constraints, several key initiatives were discussed to boost cultural and tourism activities across the province.
One of the major highlights was the plan to restore drive-in cinema facilities in Karachi once the ongoing cost-cutting phase is completed.
In addition to the cinema revival, the government also plans to launch the third phase of a train safari from Karachi to Sukkur. Authorities are also considering activating arts councils in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
Officials further revealed that multiple public libraries and cultural centers, including facilities in Khairpur Nathan Shah, Moro, and Kashmore, will soon be reopened for the public.
Tourism development projects are also on the agenda. Plans include launching ferry and water sports services at Keenjhar Lake, as well as organizing cultural events and exhibitions at the district level.
The government is also preparing to host the Gorakh Festival at Gorakh Hill Station once conditions improve.
Speaking at the meeting, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah said that efforts are underway to improve cultural and tourism infrastructure while also addressing the concerns of artists, writers, and poets through a more streamlined system.
