The Young Doctors Association (YDA) has approached the Lahore High Court following the death of an eight-year-old girl who was reportedly bitten by a stray dog in Township.
The petition highlights growing concerns over the increasing number of stray dog attacks across the city.
Petition Filed Over Rising Dog Bite Cases
Through Advocate Azhar Siddique, the association submitted a civil miscellaneous application in an already pending writ petition.
The application referred to the recent tragic incident and raised an alarm about the rising number of stray dog bite cases in Lahore and other parts of Punjab.
Hundreds of thousands of reported cases
According to the petition, around 275,000 citizens were bitten by stray dogs in the past year, highlighting what the association described as a serious public health issue.
The YDA argued that existing measures have failed to protect citizens from attacks by stray and rabid dogs.
Government Policy Challenged
The application also challenged the government’s Animal Birth Control policy, claiming it has not effectively addressed the growing stray dog population.
