The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting widespread rain, wind, and thunderstorms across various parts of the country from April 1 to April 4.
According to the advisory, a westerly weather system will approach the southwestern areas of Balochistan on April 1 and continue affecting several regions until April 4, bringing heavy rainfall and hailstorms in isolated areas.
Heavy Rain Expected in Balochistan
The PMD said several areas of Balochistan, including Panjgur, Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Makran Coast, and Lasbella, are likely to receive heavy rain and thunderstorms, along with isolated hailstorms.
Rainfall in these regions may occur intermittently during the forecast period.
Rain and Snowfall in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and thunderstorms are expected in districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Kalam. Snowfall is also forecast in mountainous areas, with isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms possible.
Punjab and Islamabad to Receive Rain
Several districts of Punjab and Islamabad are also expected to experience rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms.
Cities including Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Sargodha may receive rainfall, while heavy rain is likely in Dera Ghazi Khan and nearby areas, according to the PMD.
Weather Conditions in Northern Areas
The forecast indicates that Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir will experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with snowfall expected in mountainous regions. Some areas may also receive heavy rain and hailstorms.
Rain Expected in Sindh, including Karachi
The PMD said parts of Sindh, including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, are likely to receive rain, wind, and thunderstorms with isolated hailstorms from April 2 to April 4.
Rainfall may occur with occasional breaks during this period.
Risk of Flash Floods and Landslides
The advisory warned of possible flash floods in the northeastern areas of Balochistan, including Khuzdar, Awaran, and Kharan, as well as in local streams and nullahs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Landslides are also possible in vulnerable mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Advisory for Farmers and Travelers
The PMD warned that windstorms and hailstorms could damage weak structures such as electric poles, billboards, and solar panels. Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect crops from adverse weather conditions.
Tourists and travelers have also been urged to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period.
The department added that daytime temperatures are expected to decrease across the country, while authorities have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions. The weather system may continue even after April 4.
