Rawalpindi Division is About to Get Water Filtration Plants in Every Major Area

The Punjab government has launched a Rs. 6.3 billion project to install 1,180 water filtration plants across six districts of the Rawalpindi division.

The initiative aims to significantly expand access to clean drinking water, improve public health conditions, and ensure a more reliable supply of safe water by June 30, 2026.

The project covers Rawalpindi, Attock, Murree, Chakwal, Talagang, and Jhelum. In Rawalpindi district alone, 219 filtration plants will be installed across its four tehsils.

According to a Punjab Clean Water Authority official, each plant is designed to serve a population of about 5,000 people, indicating the large scale of the initiative.

The project includes three categories of filtration plants based on water quality. Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, used in brackish water areas, will cost about Rs. 2.4 million each.

MD plants for freshwater areas are estimated at Rs. 1.2 million per unit, while UF category plants will cost around Rs. 2.5 million each.

The initiative represents a major infrastructure effort focused on improving water access across the Rawalpindi division within a defined timeline.
