The federal government has posted Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa to a new federal assignment following his removal as Chief Commissioner Islamabad and Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
According to an official notification issued by the Establishment Division, Randhawa, a BS-20 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, has been transferred and appointed as Director General Immigration and Passports under the Interior and Narcotics Control Division with immediate effect and until further orders.
The posting comes days after the federal government replaced him in Islamabad’s top administrative slot as part of a broader reshuffle in the federal capital’s management structure.
Earlier, the Cabinet Division appointed Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf as the new Chief Commissioner Islamabad after federal approval.
A Grade-20 PAS officer, Sohail Ashraf previously served as Secretary Communications and Works in the Punjab government and has earlier worked as Deputy Commissioner Faisalabad and Deputy Commissioner Mandi Bahauddin.
Officials say he is also likely to be given the additional charge of CDA chairman, a position that oversees Islamabad’s urban development, regulation, and municipal administration.
The latest transfer formally concludes Randhawa’s tenure in Islamabad while placing him in charge of the country’s immigration and passport administration at the federal level.

Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf as the new Chief Commissioner Islamabad after federal approval. He cannot be a PAS officer. He must be an inductee from the Armed Forces. Look what is going on, and keep watching.
He’s a PAS unfortunately but thru Armed forces nomination/quota… an unjust system indeed…. At least they shud be required to clear the same CE exams as all others, even if the quota is maintained… Thgh this quota makes no sense!
Why downgraded? Right from the beginning chairman CDA was a grade 22 eqvuilant post and every grade 22 officer wanted it desperately. How come it has been degraded so low to vgtadey200?
It was never a grade 22 post, you seem to be confusing it with some other . at times bps 21 officers been posted here but mostly grade 20 ones, atleast since late 90s…!
The previous rank of Mr Sohail Ashraf is not clear..it is vague.
It reads as Lieutenant retired..

Must be a Navy man originally…. In navy this rank is equivalent to an Army captain/Air Force Flight Lieutenant… the rank from which some are inducted into civil service…

Alhamdulillah. Hopefully we don’t get a corrupt and vile one in his place,who knows only to kill innocent, healthy strays instead of adapting TNVR,cut thousands of trees,and extort money by harassing small business vendors. Good riddance. Miss those days when Mr. Lashari used to be the chairman.
