New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has strongly opposed the entire US-Israeli war against Iran, warning that another regime-change would carry severe political, moral, and economic consequences.
Speaking during an interview with political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, the mayor argued that military escalation should be rejected “on every single ground,” since Americans are already struggling under rising living costs.
Mamdani said pursuing war at this time of chaos raises serious questions about Trump’s national priorities. He pointed to billions of dollars already spent on military operations and such resources should instead be directed toward healthcare expansion, education funding, or student debt relief.
He warned that the continued investment in overseas conflicts risks repeating past mistakes linked to Washington’s regime-change policies, which he said have historically produced destabilizing and long-lasting consequences.
Reflecting on earlier US wars, Mamdani said the outcomes of previous regime-change wars serve as a warning against repeating similar strategies.
