Authorities Intensify Dengue Prevention Efforts in Rawalpindi After Rainfall

The district administration in Rawalpindi has introduced a new strategy to control the spread of Dengue Fever following recent rainfall that has increased the risk of mosquito breeding.

Under the plan, elected representatives will oversee anti-dengue activities in high-risk areas alongside the District Health Authority Rawalpindi.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema said parliamentarians would monitor indoor and outdoor surveillance campaigns aimed at eliminating dengue larvae in their respective constituencies.

Monitoring in High-Risk Areas

Authorities have identified 32 high-risk union councils in the district where the virus could spread if preventive measures are not taken.

Dr Cheema said lawmakers would also mobilize local communities to adopt safety measures while keeping track of the work carried out by civic bodies.

“The parliamentarians’ active participation and coordination in these assigned union councils will play a crucial role in achieving the desired results,” he said.

Surveillance and Preventive Measures

Officials informed a meeting on dengue control that extensive surveillance was underway across the district.

More than 100,000 houses have been inspected during large-scale monitoring campaigns, and immediate action has been taken wherever dengue larvae were found.

According to the briefing, one confirmed dengue case was reported from cantonment areas in February 2026, while 19 suspected cases were also recorded.

Directions for Civic Authorities

Dr Cheema directed relevant departments to intensify preventive measures, including cleaning graveyards and drainage systems and filling ponds to eliminate potential breeding sites.

He also warned that strict action would be taken against officials involved in fake reporting or negligence.

The deputy commissioner emphasized that the involvement of elected representatives would strengthen monitoring and help ensure effective implementation of anti-dengue measures.

Authorities have also been instructed to expand public awareness campaigns, maintain field presence in identified hotspots, and accelerate ongoing sweep operations to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
