The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has launched a trial of prepaid electricity meters, allowing consumers to pay for electricity in advance, similar to mobile phone credit.
Speaking to ARY News, LESCO Chief Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt explained that users would load a balance into their meters, with electricity supplied according to the available credit.
Consumers can control their usage, limit electricity during peak hours, or extend their balance for up to a month.
The pilot project, currently underway in Allama Iqbal Town, aims to address complaints of overbilling and give consumers greater control over their energy consumption.
Additional support services are being outsourced to ensure easy access for customers during the trial phase.
If successful, the prepaid system could be expanded across Lahore, offering a more flexible and transparent way for households to manage electricity expenses.
