Power Minister Hints At Increasing Electricity Unit Rates After Historic Petrol Bomb

Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari has warned that Pakistan’s ongoing energy crisis is affecting not only oil supplies but also gas and furnace oil availability, which could ultimately increase electricity prices in the country.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the minister said the government is consulting provinces on adjusting market operating hours and introducing additional energy-saving measures to manage pressure on the national energy system.

He noted that fluctuations in fuel availability directly impact power generation costs, raising concerns about potential increases in electricity tariffs if the situation persists.

Leghari added that the federal government has made every effort to shield citizens from additional financial burden and will continue working to minimize the impact of the energy crisis on the public.

The power minister also urged citizens and businesses to conserve energy.

Government officials are expected to finalize consultations with provinces in the coming days on stabilizing the energy sector and avoiding further upward revisions in unit costs.
