The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has introduced an artificial intelligence-based system capable of identifying fugitives in real time by reconstructing and updating their appearance, marking a major step toward technology-driven policing in Pakistan.
The development comes as the agency upgrades its traditional “Red Book” of most-wanted suspects into a modern digital platform designed to improve tracking and identification of criminals.
FIA Director General Dr Usman Anwar said the new system uses AI tools to generate updated visual profiles from older photographs.
The technology can identify suspects even if they significantly change their appearance, such as growing a beard or shaving their head.
Officials say the upgraded system will make it far more difficult for fugitives to evade law enforcement by altering their physical features.
The modernized Red Book will be accessible online to FIA officials and partially available to the public. In addition to facial identification, the database contains detailed profiles of suspects.
These profiles include information such as family members and associates, CNIC and passport data, mobile numbers, distinguishing physical features, bank account details, FIR records, and the status of court cases.
The system also tracks the modus operandi of human traffickers, including their operational routes and last known locations.
According to the FIA chief, the database currently lists 143 suspected human traffickers wanted in cases registered by the agency’s anti-human trafficking units across the country.
Officials believe the new AI-powered platform will significantly strengthen law enforcement capabilities and improve efforts to combat organized crime and human smuggling networks.
