KP Bans Mining Operations During Rains

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Minerals has decided to completely suspend mining operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during rainfall, citing serious safety concerns for workers.

According to an official notification issued by the department, entry into both underground and surface mines has been prohibited during periods of rain.

Authorities warned that heavy rainfall significantly increases the risk of landslides in mining areas.

There is also a strong possibility of floodwater entering the mines, which could endanger workers and disrupt operations.

Officials added that wet conditions could raise the chances of accidents involving electrical equipment, while slippery surfaces may lead to workers slipping and falling inside mines.

The department has directed mine operators and workers to strictly follow safety standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure the protection of their own lives and those of their colleagues.

Workers have also been instructed to immediately inform relevant authorities in case of any emergency, warning that failure to observe safety precautions could result in the loss of precious lives.
