PIA Ends Discounts After Jet Fuel Price Increase

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to withdraw fare discounts for several passenger categories following a sharp increase in jet fuel prices linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict.

A PIA spokesperson said the decision affects concessions previously offered to students, bank employees, senior citizens, journalists, retired military personnel, and members of the Airports Security Force (ASF).

The move comes amid rising global energy costs after tensions in the Middle East disrupted supply routes, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a key corridor for oil shipments.

According to industry data, jet fuel prices have surged significantly in recent weeks, placing financial pressure on airlines. In Pakistan, aviation sources reported that jet fuel prices were increased by Rs. 40 per liter, taking the rate to Rs. 517.17 per liter.

PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan said the airline is facing mounting cost pressures due to expensive fuel, which has made it difficult to continue offering discounted fares. He said the discounts have been suspended until fuel prices stabilize.
